Hotel Akumal Caribe is situated on the gorgeous Riviera Maya, also know at the Mayan Riviera, located on the Caribbean coastline of the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico. It stretches from Cancun to the Sian Ka’an biosphere. The largest city is Playa del Carmen, once known as a quiet fishing village, it has held on to its culture while adding beach bars and its pedestrian 5th Avenue, full of local shops and restaurants that attract tourists. The growth has brought all the creature comforts and conveniences to the area from a Sam’s Club to movie theatres. In addition to some fabulous towns, the Riviera Maya has gorgeous beaches and wide array of activities including eco-parks such as Xcaret, Xel-Ha, Hidden Worlds and Aktun Chen.

South of Playa del Carmen is Puerto Aventuras, a boater’s community with a very American feel. The town’s marina was blasted and formed out of the limestone coastline. Here you can enjoy dining, shopping and golfing.

South of Playa del Carmen you’ll find the first of several sections of the Akumal community and our resort which treasures both its ocean-side location and the rich culture we’ve incorporated into the experience we provide our guests.

Steeped in history, Akumal was discovered in the 1950s and used as a base camp by world-famous Pablo Bush Romero and his adventurous shipwreck divers, friends and family. In more recent years Akumal has lured underground cave explorers and scuba divers. Akumal’s unique bay with its clear, blue-green waters and glistening white sand beaches that never burn your feet is breathtaking, inviting and home to juvenile turtles that feed on the sea grass in the bay. Directly offshore is the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second longest in the world and one of the premier scuba diving destinations.
